According to Ken Rosenthal, free agent relief pitcher Kirby Yates has agreed to a contract with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The deal is for one-year, and $5.5 million.
Yates met with Blue Jays members on Tuesday at their spring training complex, and both sides seem to have met their match.
The 33-year-old only made six appearances for San Diego last season before undergoing surgery to remove bone chips from his pitching elbow.
However, Yates may have been the best closer in baseball in 2019 with a 1.19 ERA and 101/13 strikeouts to walk ratio.
He also led the league in saves with 41.
If Yates is healthy, he should be the primary closer for Toronto this upcoming season.
