PREDICTIONS
Sports Betting Dime: “Oddsmakers see Martinez’s paths to victory as being of equal likelihood (+300 odds both for Martinez via decision and Martinez via KO/TKO). In the end, the outcome prop bet that I would go with is Gonzalez winning via KO or TKO positioned at +200 in the Gonzalez vs Martinez odds.”
Pick: Roman Gonzalez
Gambling News:“Although Martinez is seen as the underdog, this fighter sure has an amazing pedigree. He has 18 wins in his portfolio, with just one loss so far. The best thing is that the loss in question happened a long time ago – he lost to Joaquin Cruz in his professional debut back in 2015.
During his invincible run, Martinez got ahold of the flyweight title in 2019. Since then, he defended the title five times, showing the world he’s an elite fighter. Still, the fact is that he’s not as experienced as his next opponent, who’s played 31 fights more.”
Pick: Roman Gonzalez
Pro Boxing Fans: This is a tough one to call, but it’s a big step up for Martinez at a new weight and against a force such as Gonzalez. It could well be yet another small weight classic, and I think that Gonzalez can take it in the later rounds.
Pick: Roman Gonzalez
Sports Bet Listings – “Gonzalez has plenty of speed and power still and likes to stay close to his opponents while throwing punches in bunches and cutting off the ring and going to the body. However, he’s not a young man anymore for the weight division at 34 and has been through several wars in his career. Martinez is moving up in weight and doesn’t have the greatest chin so this is going to be a very intriguing contest.
It’s hard to tell when a boxer like Chocolatito has had one too many fights and if he has he’s not going to win this one. However, I think he was shafted on the scorecards against Estrada in his last outing and believe he’s still got enough in the tank to win a close contest over Martinez. A tossup with Gonzalez having the edges in power and experience.”
