Houston Astros rookie Jeremy Peña has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb discomfort.
Astros general manager James Click told reporters that the injury doesn’t appear to be severe, but it looks like the team won’t take any chances with their star rookie.
Peña is batting a healthy .277/.333/.471 slash with nine home runs, six steals, and 27 RBI across 54 games played.
First baseman J.J. Matijevic has been recalled in a corresponding move, and Aledmys Diaz will likely see time at shortstop with Peña out.Â
