The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed defensive lineman Akiem Hicks to a one-year contract worth “up to” $10 million.
The “up to” definition probably means the deal comes with multiple incentives for Hicks, who didn’t see much of a market this offseason.
Hicks, now 32-years-old, has missed 20 games since 2019 due to multiple injuries.
However, he’ll bring a veteran presence to the Bucs’ playoff atmosphere locker room where he should fit right in.
In nine games played with the Bears last season, Hicks totaled 3.5 sacks, 25 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and nine QB hits.
Tampa ranked third in rushing defense in 2021, and hopefully Hicks can help keep them around that general area.
