The New York Mets optioned 26-year-old outfielder Dominic Smith to Triple-A Syracuse after a slow start to begin the 2022 season.

Smith started just 12 games since May 1, and he hasn’t been able to play an everyday role with the Mets this season.

He’s slashing a low .186/.287/.256 with zero homer runs across 101 plate appearances this season, so hopefully a change of scenery can help him get out of his slump.

Nick Plummer’s started the last two games for the Mets, and he could see more opportunities with Smith being sent down.
