Mets designate Robinson Cano for assignment

Associated Press

New York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano has been designated for assignment by the team Monday.

Interesting move by the Mets, but rosters are being reduced to 26 players across the league.

Cano has another year remaining on his 10-year, $240,000,000 million deal before becoming an unrestricted free agent by the 2024 season where he’ll turn 41.

The eight-time All-Star is slashing a low .195/.233/.268 with one homer across 41 plate appearances this season.

According to NBC, Cano expected to clear waivers and become a free agent.
