Serge Ibaka and Daniel Theis each waived their trade bonuses in order to complete their trades to the Bucks and Celtics.
Ibaka could reportedly made up to an extra $400,000 heading from LA to Milwaukee, but it could have made completing the deal more complicated from a salary-matching perspective.
Theis forfeited even a bigger chunk of a bonus of over $3,000,000 to get from Houston to Boston.
The Celtics were looking for financial flexibility under the luxury tax if Theis hadn’t forfeited his bonus.
Ibaka may seem a decent role in Milwaukee, and the same could go for Theis in Boston.
