Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Kirby Yates is expected to miss multiple weeks with a flexor strain is his right arm.
Yates, who recently signed a $5.5 million million deal last winter, was expected to enter the season as the closer.
The 33-year-old had two scoreless appearances this spring where he looked solid.
With Yates sidelined, the Blue Jays may have to turn to Jordan Romano for the near future.
Toronto opens the season on April 1 with a series against the New York Yankees.
