USA Today Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs restructured Patrick Mahomes’ contract, creating $17 million in cap space for the 2021 season.

The team is converting his $21.7 million roster bonus into a signing bonus.

Kansas City is likely doing the move to keep under the reduced salary cap for the upcoming season.

Mahomes is still signed through the 2031 season, where he’ll earn $450 million from his mega 10-year contract.

The Chiefs can convert Mahomes’ salary into a signing bonus at any time in the future.
