The San Diego Padres and breakout star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. have mutual interest in a contract extension.
San Diego general manager A.J. Preller mentioned that “it sounds like there’s interest on both sides†when speaking on negotiations with Tatis. “We’ll start to look more seriously at that here this offseason.
However, Tatis is not arbitration-eligible until after 2021 and is under team control until 2024.
Although there’s no speedy rush to come to an agreement, the trend lately has been teams signing their young talent to early deals (ex. Atlanta signing both Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies long-term).
