The San Diego Padres and breakout star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. have mutual interest in a contract extension.
San Diego general manager A.J. Preller mentioned that â€œit sounds like thereâ€™s interest on both sidesâ€ when speaking on negotiations with Tatis. â€œWeâ€™ll start to look more seriously at that here this offseason.
However, Tatis is not arbitration-eligible until after 2021 and is under team control until 2024.
Although thereâ€™s no speedy rush to come to an agreement, the trend lately has been teams signing their young talent to early deals (ex. Atlanta signing both Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies long-term).
