Cowboys unlikely to offer Dalton Schultz a long-term deal

USA Today Sports

According to the NFL Network, “there’s a little optimism” that the Cowboys will sign TE Dalton Schultz to a long-term contract before the franchise tag deadline.

Schultz has been negotiating with Dallas since March on an extension, but both sides haven’t been close on a new deal.

The 25-year-old was franchise tagged by the team, giving him a base salary of $10,931,000 for the 2022 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2023.

Dallas unfortunately has a track record of paying their players at the very last minute, and it seems like this will be the case once again with their improving tight end.

Schultz set career-highs last season, catching 78 receptions for 808 yards and eight touchdowns.
