Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Wimbledon semi-final match against Nick Kyrgios due to an abdominal injury.
Nadal received treatment during his quarter-final match with Taylor Fritz, where he ultimately dealt with the pain to win in five sets.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion had practiced away from the media earlier on Thursday before calling a news conference confirming a tear in his abdomen.
“I have tried a lot of times in my career to keep going but it is obvious the injury will get worse.”
“Throughout the whole day I have been thinking about the decision to make. I think it doesn’t make sense to play. I feel very sad to say that.”
With Nadal out, Nick Kyrgios will go on to play either Novak Djokovic or Cameron Norrie in Sunday’s final.
