Chicago White Sox first basemen and reigning AL MVP Jose Abreu has tested positive for COVID-19 at spring training.
Abreu will be held away from the team for the next several days after the positive test.
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn has since stated that Abreu is “completely asymptomatic.”
Abreu is apparently frustrated by the situation, but the health safety of the players and staff are the most important overall factor.
Although he’ll be held away from the team for the next few days, the 34-year-old will likely be good to go at some point during the spring training period.
Chicago first face the Milwaukee Brewers in the Grapefruit League on February 28.
