The Los Angeles Angels signed Shohei Ohtani to a two-year, $8.5 million contract to avoid arbitration.
Ohtani originally requested $3.3 million, but the team offered him $2.5 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last month.
The 26-year-old will make $3 million in 2021 and $5.5 million in 2022.
Ohtani struggled behind the plate and on the mound last season, slashing a low .190/.291/.356 while throwing just 1 2/3 innings due to a flexor strain.
Hopefully an offseason of rest will rejuvenate Ohtani for the upcoming 2021 season.
