The Carolina Panthers acquired quarterback Baker Mayfield from the Browns for a conditional 2024 fifth-round pick.
As part of the move, Mayfield has agreed to a $3.5 million pay cut in the final year of his deal this upcoming season.
The Browns will pay $10.5 million of his contract, while the Panthers will pay around $5 million.
Looks like Carolina has little faith in 25-year-old Sam Darnold, who posted a 4-7 QB record last season.
However, Mayfield also struggled last season with a 6-8 QB record and threw a low 17 touchdowns to 13 interceptions, but Cleveland’s poor offensive line comes into play.
We’ll have to take a wait and see approach to who begins week one for Carolina as the starter, and they awkwardly open the season to face the Browns.
