Starting pitcher Yu Darvish has been named the Opening Day starter for the San Diego Padres.

The 35-year-old from Habikino, Japan dealt with hip and back injuries last season struggling to a 4.22 ERA.

However, Darvish posted 199 strikeouts across 166.1 innings pitched in 2021.

San Diego opens the season on the road with a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
