Texans want to keep David Johnson on a discount

The Houston Chronicle reported that the Texans want to keep David Johnson but at a lower salary.

Johnson is currently owed $8.5 million for the 2021 season, but they could cut him and save $6.4 million against the cap.

Houston just released backup running back Duke Johnson, leaving David Johnson as the presumed starter for next season.

It would make sense for the two sides to arrainge some type of one-year deal for 2021.

Johnson’s production however will depend on if the team ultimately deals quarterback Deshaun Watson.

If Watson is dealt, the 29-year-old back will struggle as teams focus on Houston’s running game with no strong passing output.

The Texans messy situations continue led by a poor decision making front office over the last several seasons.
