The Colorado Rockies have signed starting pitcher German Marquez to a 5-year, $43 million contract extension.
The new deal includes a club option that can vest into a mutual option if Marquez turns in two top-three finishes for the Cy Young Award during the guaranteed portion of the contract.
The 24-year-old right-hander showed that he can be an elite-caliber pitcher down the stretch last year, and he was fantastic in his 2019 debut against the Marlins pitching six innings allowing just one run with seven strikeouts.
