Baker Mayfield will start at quarterback for the Carolina Panthers to open the season against the Cleveland Browns.
Mayfield has beaten out Sam Darnold for the starting position less than two months after joining the team.
The funny thing is that the Browns are paying a salary of $10.5 million to Mayfield for 2022, after they dealt him to Carolina for a 2024 fifth-round draft pick.
However, the 27-year-old struggled last season where he posted a QB rating of 83.1 and threw for 3,010 yards, a career-low 17 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
It’ll be an intriguing matchup for Mayfield against his former team who ran him out of town to open the season in Carolina.
For Darnold, he’ll like see a reserve role for most of the season barring an injury or poor play due to his awful first season with the Panthers last year.
