The Seattle Mariners signed outfielder Jesse Winker to a two-year, $14.5 million contract extension avoiding arbitration.
The deal will cut an arbitration hearing for the 2022 season, and also buy out Winker’s final arbitration-eligible season in Seattle for 2023.
After that, the now 28-year-old will become a free agent at the end of the 2023 season.
Winker’s play has been sub-par so far in his first season with the Mariners, as he’s batting .214/.326/.308 with four home runs, 24 RBI, and 19 runs scored.
