The New York Jets assigned the franchise tag to safety Marcus Maye.
Maye, who turns 28 on Tuesday, was Pro Football Focus’ number five overall safety in the NFL last season.
He started all 16 games for the Jets and had a career-high 11 passes defended along with two interceptions, two sacks, and another career-high 88 total tackles.
Maye stepped in place of Jamal Adams who signed with Seattle for $22.3 million.
Under the franchise tag, May will earn a guaranteed $10.5 million for the 2021 season, and if he plays well again he’ll earn a more lucrative contract in the future.
