Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney said there will have to be “significant concessions” to bring back Ben Roethlisberger for 2021.
Big Ben’s $41,250,000 million salary cap hit for 2021 simply won’t work for the team with the reduction in salary Rooney said.
Roethlisberger will be 39-years-old in the upcoming season, but it sounds like the Steelers are kicking themselves for signing him to such a lucrative contract.
His 2021 salary includes a $4,000,000 base salary, $12,500,000 signing bonus, $15,000,000 roster bonus, and $9,750,000 in restructures.
Head coach Mike Tomlin stated that “it’s reasonable to assume Ben is going to be back” after suffering a playoff loss to the division rival Cleveland Browns.
Either way, Pittsburgh is going to have to deal with financial troubles in the near future after signing an old quarterback to a huge contract.
Ben Roethlisberger stated that he wants to restructure his contract.Â
“I want to do everything I can and made that very clear to them from the very beginning that it was my idea to basically help the team however I can this year.”
