Suns owner Robert Sarver suspended and fined $10 million

Phoenix Suns and Mercury owner Robert Sarver has been suspended for one year from both the NBA and WNBA and fined $10 million.

The news comes after an investigation into his conduct in the workplace of both the Suns and Mercury.

There was lots of evidence surrounding Sarver after interviews with 320 former and current employees, and gathering evidence from 80,000 documents including emails, text messages, videos, and other materials.

The $10 million fine will be used to enforce and will be donated to organizations that focus on racial and gender-based issues both inside and outside of the workplace.

Sarver, now 60-years-old, will additionally be required to complete a training program that is focused on respect and appropriate conduct in the workplace.

“The statements and conduct described in the findings of the independent investigation are troubling and disappointing,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. 

“We believe the outcome is the right one, taking into account all the facts, circumstances and context brought to light by the comprehensive investigation of this 18-year period and our commitment to upholding proper standards in NBA workplaces.”
