The Houston Astros placed Justin Verlander on the 15-day injured list with a right calf injury.
Verlander underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed “fascial disruption, but no muscle fiber disruption” in his right calf according to NBC.
The 39-year-old’s status remains unclear for now on how long he’ll be sidelined, but the team should make it clear shortly.
Verlander has been great for the Astros in the 2022 season, posting a 1.84 ERA and 0.855 WHIP across 152 innings pitched.
Houston has a 11.5 game lead In the AL West over the Seattle Mariners, so Verlander getting a breather heading into the postseason isn’t such bad news.
