Tigers shortstop Javier Baez will be sidelined again Saturday against the Royals with a lingering thumb injury.
There was hope that he’d return to the lineup this afternoon, but Baez will be out for the fourth consecutive game.
The 29-year-old injured his thumb during Detroit’s walk-off celebration on Opening Day, and he aggravated it on a swing a few days later.
Although he’s out, the positive news is that X-rays came back negative on the injury and Baez shouldn’t be sidelined much longer.
The two-time All-Star is batting .316 so far across five games played this season.
*UPDATE*
Baez has now been placed on the 10-day injury list.
