The Cincinnati Reds placed first baseman Joey Votto on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left thumb.
Votto suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch on Wednesday against the White Sox.
Although he was played on the 10-day IL, the 37-year-old is expected to be sidelined for a month.
Mike Moustakas will take over first base on Friday, with Kyle Farmer at shortstop and Eugenio Suarez at third base.
Votto was batting .226/.305/.425 with five home runs and 17 RBI across 118 plate appearances in 2021.
