The Boston Red Sox have signed SP Chris Sale to a 6-year, $160 million contract extension.
Sale will earn $30 million per year from 2020-2022, and $27.5 million in 2023 and 2024.
The deal also includes an opt-out after the 2022 season, where he could choose to explore free agency.
Sale finished in the top 6 in AL Cy Young voting in all 7 of his seasons as a starter, and he’s posted a 2.56 ERA and 545/77 K/BB ratio over 372 1/3 innings in the last two seasons for Boston.
