Phoenix Suns star guard Devin Booker is expected to miss six weeks after surgery to repair the fifth metacarpophalangeal joint in his right hand on Monday.

The news of Booker injuring his hand came to a surprise, as the Suns recently signed the 21-year-old to a 5-year $158 million max contract on July 8.

If Booker makes the six-week timetable, he will miss the first 2-3 games of the season.

With the addition of #1 pick Deandre Ayton, Booker will look to improve his statistics as he’s done for each of his previous three seasons listed below:

• 13.8 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 2.6 APG
• 22.1 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 3.4 APG
• 24.9 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 4.7 APG
