Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has stepped down from the position.

Morey will remain in an advisory role for a short period to assist the team on their head-coaching search.

The move by Morey doesn’t come as too much as a surprise, especially after the team’s “small ball” theory went up in flames after getting crushed by the Lakers in the playoffs.

In Morey’s final season with Houston, he went under serious fire after posting a tweet supporting freedom in Hong Kong, which led to China pulling ties from the NBA and suspending sponsorship agreements with the league.

China returned the NBA to its airwaves for the first time during the NBA Finals.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver estimated that the league’s losses in revenue could cost up to $400 million because of Morey’s senseless actions.

According to ESPN, Houston plans to promote executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Rafael Stone to general manager and Eli Witus to assistant general manager.
