Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward is likely to pick up his $34.2 million player option for next season.

The original contract signed in 2017 was a four-year, $127 million deal with a fourth year player option.

It’s a good move for Hayward who obviously will get paid majorly, but shaky for Boston since Hayward hasn’t quite lived up to his contract value.

Gordon averaged 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists this season, but his injuries have stacked up since joining the Celtics.

His injuries over the last few seasons:

  • 08/17/2020 – Ankle
  • 03/03/2020 – Right Knee
  • 02/06/2020 – Foot
  • 02/04/2020 – Calf
  • 12/19/2020 – Nose
  • 11/09/2019 – Left Hand
  • 04/08/2019 – Left Ankle Soreness
  • 03/16/2019 – Concussion
  • 02/20/2019 – Right Ankle Sprain
  • 01/28/2019 – Laceration
  • 12/10/2018 – Illness
  • 11/24/2018 – Ankle
  • 10/20/2018 – Ankle
  • 10/17/2017 – Fractured Ankle

We’ll see if Hayward remains in Boston, or if GM Danny Ainge wants to move his contract elsewhere.

Jayson Tatum has yet to sign a big deal, and he’s worth a huge extension.
