The Chicago Cubs have hired David Ross, their former catcher of the club as their new team manager.

Ross is now the 55th manager in Cubs history.

Chicago missed the postseason this year, their first time being out since 2014.

The deal is for three years for Ross, and includes a club option for 2023.

Ross, age 42, played his final two of his 15 career seasons with Chicago.

“I’m honored by this opportunity to be the next manager of the Chicago Cubs,” Ross said in a statement.

“My time with this organization has been special since the day I joined, so to continue with the club in this role is a blessing for which I’m so very thankful.”
