MLB Reportedly Planning Summer League for High School Players

The MLB is reportedly planning a summer league for elite high school players.

Major League Baseball is undertaking its boldest effort yet to reclaim a youth apparatus that has been outsourced to third-party profiteers,” wrote Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. “Planning a summer league for elite high school players that it hopes will eat into the pay-for-play market that exists today, sources familiar with the plan told Yahoo Sports.”

The league will be called the Prospect Development Pipeline League, which is expected to be announced by the MLB today.

The league would begin in June of 2019 and go on until early July with 80 high school senior invitees.

The best of the group will have a chance to play at a high school game during the All-Star break, and additionally get a chance to play in a home run derby.
