English Premier League Roundup (Match Day 9)

An enthralling weekend in the English Premier League saw two of the big teams play out an exciting draw.

Manchester United traveled to London to play an unbeaten Chelsea team. Having gone behind via a Paul Pogba mistake, United clawed their way back into the game thanks to an Anthony Martial double.

With six minutes of added time being declared, Chelsea knew they’d get one last chance and that chance at the very end of the game. A hopeful cross followed by an excellent header, which hit the post, only to have a Chelsea player smash in the rebound to make it 2-2 courtesy of Ross Barkley.

The draw ensures Chelsea maintain their unbeaten streak, whilst the rumours surrounding manager Jose Mourinho’s future at United should subside for the time being.

Saturday’s afternoon fixtures saw a range of performances, both good and bad.

Manchester City once again showed why they’re head and shoulders above the rest of the Premier League as they destroyed Burnley, scoring five in the process. City are an excellent team to watch, whether you’re a fan or a neutral and their style of football is exactly why they dominated the Premier League last season.

Due to Chelsea’s draw, City have established a two-point lead at the top of the table, with Liverpool playing Huddersfield in the late kick-off.

At the other end of the table, Newcastle continued their horrible start to the season, losing 1-0 at home to Brighton. Newcastle’s problems seem to arise from the lack of attacking talent in their squad.

On Sunday, Everton face Crystal Palace, and Leicester travel to Arsenal on Monday night.

We’re now a quarter of a way through the league season and unlike last year, one team isn’t miles ahead of the others. As the season progresses, the excitement levels should continue to rise if it stays this close between the top teams.
